our story
In 2010 Elliot began working for a local home kill butcher in Te Awamutu. He learnt every step of the process, from paddock to freezer. Jo was working as a primary school teacher.
In 2016 Elliot and Jo bit the bullet and set up Hillside Homekills on their property in the Waikato. They built up a strong and loyal client base very quickly, with a high quality service and product.
In 2022 they relocated Hillside Homekills to the Mokauiti Valley in the King Country, setting up a purpose built processing plant on their new property.
Add two children to the story, who you will often see around the butchery with mum and dad, and you have a true family run business.

Elliot is the guy who brings the meat knowledge. If there is a something you would like to try, he will make it happen. Elliot has an eye for detail and very high standards. Whether it is out slaughtering, boning beef, making small goods or scrubbing the bins, he is always putting in 100%.

Jo does a bit of everything. Mostly you will see her in the office sorting anything admin, usually with children in tow, but she can jump in anywhere. If an extra hand is needed to slice steak, tie some sausages or do some packing, Jo is there.

Bill brings the experience and has done a bit of everything! Bill joined the team in 2020, he is reliable and always ready to work. Bill seems to know everyone who walks through the door, he brings the local knowledge. You will find him breaking beef with the boys.

Ceiran joined Hillside in 2023 and started his apprenticeship soon after. He is a brilliant addition to the team. Ceiran is picking up the butchery trade very quickly. He is hard working, reliable and motivated. He is also the funny guy, dropping a quiet but deadly punchline when you least expect it.

Anna is our newest team member, she joined us in January 2025, and has fitted right in! Anna’s positivity, bubbly attitude and willingness to learn something new is refreshing. She is quickly becoming our packer extraordinaire! She has a great rapport with the customers and is a valuable part of the team.
